Employment Practices Liability Insurance

EMPLOYERS TAKE NOTE

During the fiscal year 2015 the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) secured $356 Million for victims of employment discrimination.  They also made changes to discriminatory practices regulations aimed at remedying violations of equal opportunity laws and helping to prevent discriminatory workplace conduct.  If you own a business these changes are both good reasons why you should consider adding Employment Practices Liability (EPL) coverage to your insurance portfolio.

Employment Practices Liability coverage – often just called EPL coverage – provides coverage to employers against claims made by employees for things like discrimination, wrongful termination,  hostile workplace, harassment and other potential employment-related claims.

EPL coverage is not included in standard business insurance policies, however it is available as an optional coverage to most businesses.   The premiums, coverage and availability of coverage are all based on a number of factors, including individual business practices, loss history and loss control measures in place.
